HOUSING ACCOMMODATION REQUEST PROCEDURE
2012-2013

The Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) works collaboratively with the Department of Residential Life in order to provide housing accommodations to qualified students with disabilities. By federal law, a person with a disability is any person who: 1) has a physical or mental impairments; 2) has a record of such impairment; or 3) is regarded as having such an impairment, which substantially limits one or more major life activities such as self-care, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing or learning.

Reasonable accommodations depend upon the nature and degree of severity of the documented disability. While the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and its more recent amendments (2008) requires that priority consideration be given to the specific methods requests by the student, it does not imply that a particular accommodation must be granted if it is deemed not reasonable and other suitable techniques are available.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS:

  • Prior to requesting an accommodation, you must be ELIGIBLE for on-campus housing.

  • To be eligible for housing, all returning students who currently live on campus must complete the 2012-2013 online application for housing.  This application will be available on December 2, 2011 on Residential Life’s website at www.reslife.uconn.eduAPPLICATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 25, 2012.

If you complete an application after the deadline you will be placed on Residential Life’s waiting list for on-campus housing. If you are reached on the waiting list, you may then contact the CSD to request an accommodation.

  • The date on which you complete the online application has no impact on your priority in the housing selection process. Housing selection is based on class standing.

  • If you currently reside off campus and are requesting to move on campus on the basis of a disability, please click the appropriate link below for additional information.

  • If you are requesting to remain in the same room, participate in the same room selection process directly through Residential Life (please note that depending on your class standing and area of campus, you may or may not be able to return to the same room). If you are unable to select same room, please contact your disability service provider at the Center as soon as possible. We will contact Residential Life to determine whether or not you can return to the same room.

  • If you cannot return to the same room or are requesting to live in a different area of campus, participate in the on-line room selection process directly through Residential Life. You are encouraged to select a room that will meet your accommodation needs. Click here for specific residence hall information.
