Focused Academic Skills Training (FAST)

What is the FAST Program?

Focused Academic Skill Training (FAST) program offers services that are individualized and go above and beyond standard accommodations. FAST is designed to help you learn ways to study smartly and effectively at UConn.

FAST is customized to individual student needs and will introduce you to a variety of learning strategies to help you to read, write, problem-solve, manage time, and present college-level work. Participants in the program will meet with a Strategy Instructor on a weekly basis and attend group workshops through the semester on a variety of academic and college transition topics. As this program goes beyond the beyond the legislative mandates, in order to provide the necessary materials and resources, participation in this program includes a rate of $1,500 per semester.

How can I apply?
  • Any student enrolled at the University of Connecticut is encouraged to apply.
  • An online Inquiry Form is available at the Center for Students with Disabilities website at www.csd.uconn.edu
  • Upon receipt of the Inquiry Form, you will be contacted by a CSD representative to respond to any questions you may have and process your Participation Agreement.
  • Due to the individualized nature of this program, space is limited. Students are encouraged to apply early.
Goals of the FAST Program

The main goal of this program is to provide students with the tools needed to improve and enhance their academic skills and resources. In accomplishing this goal, students will also learn more about themselves, their learning style, and how to be autonomous individuals.

By participating in the FAST program, it is our goal that students will:

  • Identify areas of strengths and challenges in academics and personal of a college student.
  • Increase awareness of strategies and skills for application in the academic demands and personal goals in the college setting.
  • Create a learning profile to have as a reference guide for future semesters; identifying learning strategies that worked and those that didn't.
  • Have opportunity to learn how to work smarter not harder!

Please fill out the Beyond Access Inquiry form for more information.
