Building Opportunities for Students with Learning Disabilities (B.O.L.D.)

What is the B.O.L.D Program?

The B.O.L.D program is specifically geared towards college students with learning disabilities (LD) and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and addresses the unique needs of these students. The program focuses on skills and learning experiences relevant for transitioning from high school to college during the freshman and sophomore years, and skills and competencies that prepare students for work and/or higher education during the junior and senior years.

Students meet with a trained Strategy Instructor (learning specialist) on a weekly basis to develop and participate in a support plan which is guided by the student’s particular needs, approved accommodations, their program of study, and goals for a positive college experience.

Goals of the B.O.L.D Program

The B.O.L.D program emphasizes three elements of a positive college experience:

  1. A supportive Learning Climate/Environment through active collaboration and communication among students, faculty, administrators, and parents (as appropriate). Students learn self-advocacy, goals setting, academic self-discipline, and ways to effectively participate in the college experience.
  2. Awareness and fluency with Study Skills and Learning Strategies for college-level courses through one-on-one instruction with trained strategy instructors. Direct instruction is anchored in course content for each semester.
  3. Individualized training in Learning and Assistive Technologies that supports studying smarter not harder, including information and training in low-cost/no-cost technologies for writing papers, reading, note-taking, exam preparation, and research.

The B.O.L.D. program is fee based.

  • $1,700 per semester

Students enrolled in the B.O.L.D. program may also access Tutoring PLUS services.

Please be advised, fees for Beyond Access programs are subject to change.
